Interview with a Riviera Magazine editorial assistant

Meet Meredith

Ever wonder what you would find inside of a girl's closet who lived and breathed the fashion industry? Or which fashion designers influence her look? Well, former model, Meredith Hattam of Riviera Magazine is giving RichSkinnyPretty.com an inside look. Find out what inspires her personal style.

RSP. What is your current position in the fashion industry? (Feel free to include previous experience as well).
Right now, I'm the editorial assistant for Riviera Magazine. We get to cover everything from local trends and designers to book deals and nightlife...it's quite fun :) Before that, I dabbled in modeling a bit, traveling to N.Y. for 4 months with a really great agency and meeting some of the coolest people I know, only to find that it wasn't for me. I've found that I like being behind the scenes of things better...having complete creative freedom is totally empowering.

RSP. Which fashion designers or runway trends influence your overall look?
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE (as does everyone else) Christophe Decarnin for Balmain, and also Phillip Lim's girly, effortlessly chic aesthetic. Alexander Wang is cool as well. As far as runway trends go, I tend to lean towards fashion's comfort food of choice - black. My closet is completely black, navy, gray and tan...I really need to lighten up!

RSP. What is your most prized fashion possession?
A white leather Marc Jacobs bag that was a gift for my four year anniversary. Unfortunately, I don't do too well with white...it already needs to be cleaned. Sigh. I am experiencing some serious shoe-gret, however, after passing up an $80 pair of Giuseppe Zanotti booties last month. D'oh!

RSP. What can we find in your closet????
Being a college student, I'm all about cheap chic...I love H&M, Zara, Mango, and vintage finds. I wish we had Top Shop in SD, but I just don't see it happening. Lots of black and long cardigans/jackets, and also lots of scarves. I love to wear a simple outfit with a funky statement necklace...my fave local designers for awesome bijoux are Micha Designs or Para Sentir.

RSP. In your opinion what is the biggest fashion faux pas???
Going overboard with trends. If you're going to wear something super trendy (see: leggings or faux glasses), tone down the rest of your outfit. Just be yourself! You can't go wrong with simplicity. Also, I've only seen this in CA, but ladies, why the skunk hair? It's way unattractive.

xoxo
