Interview with owner of Azzaria Boutique and Azzaria Denim Lounge

Meet Tammy
RSP: What is your current position in the fashion industry? (Feel free to include previous experience as well).
TN:
I’ve been in San Diego for four years, prior I lived in LA for 11 years and worked as an independent stylist. Fashion has always been my passion! I have a lot of friends in the entertainment industry and they would all come to my house to borrow my clothes and my guy friends would always want me to go shopping with them. I used to go to sets with my friends and I would love to be in the wardrobe department and watch the stylist. One day when my friend called to borrow a dress for an event I said “hire me as your stylist” and she did, and that’s how I began my career.

I moved from LA four years ago, I have always planned to transition out of the business that I was in and open a boutique where I could showcase my personal style. I own a lifestyle Boutique in Cardiff Azzaria Boutique, 2021 San Elijo Ave. Cardiff By The Sea, CA 92007. Our brands include Catherine Malandrino, Twelfth Street, Black Halo, Diane Von Furstenberg, Jay Godfrey, Laila Azahr, Ella Moss, Splendid, bobi, Testmament, fighting eel and Alvin Valley.

I also own a denim lounge Azzaria Denim Lounge, 2029 San Elijo Ave, Cardiff By The Sea, CA 92007. We have beer on tap and a wine bar so you can have a drink and relax while our trained stylist fit you in your perfect pair of denim. Our brands include Hudson, J Brand, Joe’s, Dylan George, Taverniti So, True Religion, William Rast, Genetic, AG, Paige, 7 For all mankind, Kasil, Rock & Republic, Union, Chip & Pepper, 7 Diamonds, Howe, Retro Brand, Azzaria branded organic cotton tee’s.
RSP: Which fashion designers or runway trends influence your overall look?
TN:
Catherine Malandrino is a favorite; I love her style and the unique pieces she brings to her collections…And I absolutely love Zac Posen.

RSP: What is the biggest TREND or MUST- HAVE ITEM for fall?
TN:
The Biker Jacket is a huge trend for fall; we brought in the biker jacket from Mike and Chris. Another fall trend is the Boyfriend Jacket; you will also find this at Azzaria.
RSP: What is your most prized fashion possession?
TN:
I don’t have just one :) but if I had to pick it would be my long leather Gucci Jacket. It’s been in my closet for years and I always go back to it. Catherine Malandrino did a similar version for fall.

RSP: What can we find in your closet? Please include specific items, accessories and brands.
TN: Gucci (not today’s Gucci) A LOT of Catherine Malandrino, Black Halo, Diane Von Furstenberg, Jay Godfrey, Twelfth Street, Mark Wong Nark. AG and J Brand have become my favorite denim and I’ve started collecting some casual knit pieces from Bobi. Louis Vuitton classic handbags are a big favorite and I love vintage jewelry.

RSP: In your opinion what is the biggest fashion faux pas???
TN: I think the biggest mistake people make with fashion is going completely with the trend. I love it when I see someone on trend but doing it with a twist and their own unique style.

Nacole

"Lights and music are on my mind" -Cut Copy. New York Fashion Week Spring 2010

Meet Stephanie
This month Steph gives as an inside look from behind the fashion shows of New York Fashion Week.
What you need to know:
Fashion Design Student at FIT in NYC.
Has interned for big time designers like Anna Sui and Michael Kors.
Her favorite designer is Rodarte.
♥'s her hightop black Converse sneakers.
Ambition? To become a fashion designer. (Well, we at RichSkinnyPretty.com have no doubt that she is well on her way).
"Before I had a chance to adjust to my first semester at FIT, Fashion Week began...Fashion Night Out was the first event on my schedule, during the day I worked with Teen Vogue setting up for their fashion show and Taylor Momsen's performance and then spent the evening wandering the floors of Barneys. Although I was unable to make it past the mosh pit surrounding Manolo Blahnik, I was able to talk with Behnaz Sarafpour, as she sketched a design based on my personal style, and then with Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte who couldn't have been more nice or more modest. "

"Other highlights for me included working at the Vassilios Kostetos show. You would never know it was his first season showing in New York, based on his edgy collection dominated by red carpet worthy mini dresses. His sophisticated color palette and touches of glamour & femininity was also so refreshing and modern. I also loved working at the Carolina Herrera show. Her choice of inpspiration: woven Japanese baskets was very original and translated into a chic collection of more youtful silhouettes in cool textured fabrics."

"As usual, the highlight of my fashion week was the Anna Sui show. Although I generally like her collections more when there is a bit of Rock n Roll feel, I think throwing on one of her bright, cheerful shifts with an adorable flowered head scarf is the perfect remedy for any bad day. And meeting Fern Mallis & Peaches Geldorf wasn't bad either."
