Interview with the creator of FreeFashionInternships.com.

Meet Carla

RSP: What is your current position in the fashion industry? (Feel free to include previous experience as well).
Right now I'm managing my website, http://freefashioninternships.com/ , as well as doing freelance PR and events. My previous experience includes working with ID and iStyle Media, as well as interning with Seventh House PR, RVCA, Gucci, Volcom, Escada, JANE Magazine and Hollie Ten.

RSP: Which fashion designers or runway trends influence your overall look?
Right now, I'm feeling the glam rock girly look that is reminiscent of what Balmain and Emanuel Ungaro showed at their fall 2009 RTW shows. Give me leather and studs, add a girly edge and I'm happy. Now the challenge is to make it work during the hot New York summer!
RSP: What is the biggest TREND or MUST- HAVE ITEM for summer?
In my opinion, the must have item this summer is a really great summery dress that can go from day-to-night. Some of my favorite memories are when I left the house at noon and didn't come back until 3am! Summer's all about spontaneity and going with the flow- just make sure to bring some makeup to do touch ups!

RSP: What is your most prized fashion possession?
My most prized fashion possession is my black leather motorcycle jacket. It was my mother's 14th birthday present, and has the most amazing zip-out lining. I wear it constantly!

RSP: What can we find in your closet? Please include specific items, accessories and brands.
I tend to invest most of my money in handbags, shoes and jewelry. As of late, I've found myself only using my Balenciaga black and gold studded Giant City bag, as well as the black and silver bucket bag version. My other favorite handbag brands are Yves Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton. For shoes, I love Christian Louboutin, Yves Saint Laurent and Miu Miu. I'm only 5'4, so I can definitely count on those brands to have height to their shoes, but still be comfortable. I've been using my Christian Louboutin red suede Orlan's and YSL bronze Tribute pumps to death, as well as a black and gray pair of Miu Miu's I got on sale last year! For jewelry, I have been a die-hard David Yurman fan since college. I use his black onyx Albion ring almost daily, as well as his cable bracelets. I'm also a sunglasses fan, and have the firm belief that the cheap ones are always to most fun! I always use my $20 dollar pairs more than my designer ones. My secret is to always look in random places like gas stations and street fairs. My favorite pair of sunglasses were purchased from a Mexican supermarket! As far as clothing, my go-to brands are Catherine Malandrino, LaRok, D&G, Alice + Olivia, and Diane Von Furstenberg if I'm looking for something on the nicer side. Otherwise, i'll hit up Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Zara, Karmaloop.com, my nearest outlet mall (I'm a HUGE bargain hunter!) or the occasional Gilt Groupe sale.

RSP: In your opinion what is the biggest fashion faux pas???
Wearing an outfit without confidence is definitely the biggest fashion faux pas in my book.

Meet the GIRLS OF RICH SKINNY PRETTY.

This is NOT about being RICH, SKINNY or PRETTY. Instead, it’s about individual style no matter what your budget is or what size you are. This is about everyday women. How many times have you seen someone and wondered “Where did she get that?” or “What brand is that?”

Fashion and style is not only found on the runways of Paris, the A-List parties in New York, or on the red carpets of LA. It’s found all around you- at your local coffee shop or dive bar. Style is in our everyday lives, with everyday people.

Our society is consumed and captivated by this idea of “Rich, Skinny, Pretty”. The media and society interchangeably work together to create these ideologies, and unfortunately we are all part of this cycle. We are addicted to reading Us Weekly and Star, and making a date with girlfriends to watch reality shows like “The Hills” and “The Real Housewives of…somewhere affluent.” All drama aside, aren’t we watching these shows and reading these magazines just to see what the women are wearing?

This is a place that crosses the defining borders of rich, skinny, and pretty. This site is not about celebrities and socialites with millions in the bank. It’s about real women who have great closets and style, no matter what their budget is. At RSP, you will find a range of different styles and looks- some you might find too boring or safe, others you might find too quirky or trendy. Either way, that’s the point. The blog does not focus on specific genres of style, trends or brands catering to a specific demographic or budget. Let RSP be a place to inspire you!

You’ll meet Kelly, Rachael, Ashley and Jamie, each with their own unique look and style. You don't have to worry about asking "What brand is that?" Each post comes complete with what each girl is wearing! Come back each week for fresh new looks!Do you have a favorite? Does Kell just embody the style you love or is it Ash who inspires you? Leave comments and let RichSkinnyPretty.com know who your favorite is!!

Rachael (first) is wearing a vintage tube top, True Religion denim and Steve Madden boots.

CoCo: I work at Saks Fifth Avenue in Midtown NYC for Alice + Olivia.

RSP: Which fashion designers or runway trends influence your overall look?
CoCo: I love anything and everything oversized, I have this amazing Norma Kamali "ninja hoodie" that I pretty much live in. I like to mix and match vintage and modern, I have accumulated so many fun vintage pieces from living in La, San Diego and New York. I'm really into anything menswear inspired, Issili makes the most amazing boyfriend blazer that I have in 2 colorways. I would have to say that I am most influenced by Marc Jacobs, Alice + Olivia, Helmet Lang, Vena Cava, Geren Ford, Alexander Wang, Chanel, Miu Miu, YSL, Rebecca Taylor, Miu Miu and
Milly.

RSP: What is the biggest TREND or MUST-HAVE ITEM for summer?
CoCo:
I would have to say the biggest trend that I have seen for summer would have to be a romper, I really like the floral romper that Rebecca Taylor made for Spring 09' and the Alice + Olivia's Lindsey linen romper.

RSP: What is your most prized fashion possession?
CoCo: My grand oval ring and emerald cut ring both in silver & gold along with my picture frame neclace also in silver & gold, all made by Digby and Iona. You can find Digby and Iona jewerly at catbirdnyc.com or digbyandiona.com.

RSP: What can we find in your closet? Please include specific items, accessories and brands.
CoCo:
Tons of Marc Jacobs dresses. Oversized tee's and dresses by Alexander Wang, Helmet Lang, Joie and American Apparel. Vintage inspired jackets and dresses by Milly. Stacks of Jbrand jeans. Thrift store finds mostly dresses. Blouses by Vena Cava. Alice + Olivia dresses, blouses, sweaters but my favorite piece would have to be my Anders pants. Betsey Johnson jackets, dresses, jumpsuits from the 80's that I have accumulated from my mother. Valentino bowed trench coat. Jeffery Campbell & Dolce Vita booties. Joie riding boots. Marc by Marc jellies. Worishofer sandles. Vintage shoes that I have picked up from all over. Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs and vintage purses.

RSP: In your opinion what is the biggest fashion faux pas???
CoCo:
Visible panty lines. Toes that don't peep in peep toe'd shoes. Muffin tops. High heels with too much milage, bitches look like they need a tire rotation.
RSP: We couldn't have said it better ourselves Coco!

Sunday

Interview with a New York FASHION INTERN

Meet Stephanie

RSP: What is your current position in the fashion industry?
(Feel free to include previous experience as well).
Steph: Aspiring womenswear fashion and accessory designer...
I interned with both Michael Kors and Anna Sui. I am currently majoring in Fashion Design starting this fall at FIT.

RSP: Which fashion designers or runway trends influence your overall look?
Steph: My favorite designers are Marchesa and Rodarte but right now my style is most inspired by Balmain's edgy rock look.

Backstage @ Anna Sui with Agyness Deyn's (Kelly's favorite model by the way) sis and assistant - wearing a dress of her own design.

RSP: What is the biggest TREND or MUST-HAVE ITEM for summer?
Steph: Neon floral prints and studded/acid washed/ripped jeans.

RSP: What is your most prized fashion possession?
Steph: My black hightop Converse sneakers.

RSP: What can we find in your closet? Please include specific items, accessories and brands.
Steph: Lots of MK and Anna Sui of course, Converse in every color, lots of black & purple & leather and a crazy collection of Tripp jeans.

RSP: In your opinion what is the biggest fashion faux pas???
Steph: Looking skanky (2 tight, 2 short, 2 revealing, etc) ewww
it sometimes works on supermodels walking the runways or in edgy magazine spreads but not a flattering everyday look for the average woman!

Wednesday

"Put your pretty dress on, put your red boots on," - Rosie Thomas

RSP: Who’s your favorite model?
Ash: Kate Moss.
RSP: How would you describe your look?
Ash: I keep it simple, as far as accessories go. However, I do love earrings. I don't have a huge passion for tons of flare since I like to layer a lot with clothing. I take it easy on accessories so I don't feel like I'm wearing my entire closet at once!

Ashley is wearing an American Apparel tank, a Forever21 suspender dress and a no name pair of sunglasses.

Vintage Justine red boots.
